Daphne, or Hellfire

Assembly Roxy, Nov 2019

Redeveloped after its Fringe run at The Greenhouse, this production was staged in the Downstairs Studio at Assembly Roxy in Edinburgh, dir. by Avigail Tlalim.

Inspired by Ovid’s myth, ‘Daphne and Apollo’, this ecofeminist drama recasts Daphne as an impassioned environmentalist, battling big business, a boastful boyfriend and a pressurising father. As tensions between Daphne and Apollo rise, Daphne must decide what she is willing to sacrifice for the sake of saving the planet. An exciting new play about trees, family trees and female liberation.

'A powerhouse on stage, Cowan’s conviction in her performance is as strong as her writing... a masterful piece of poetic writing...'
